Heather believes that to be the best you can be, it is necessary to take control of your own health! There are many pillars to your health and Heather plays a role in helping you to address your needs. She helps you to understand how restrictions in your body can contribute to your pain and dysfunction.
She will help facilitate healing in your body with her advanced hands on techniques using specific fascial mobilization, visceral manipulation, neuromuscular and neurocentric re-education, and therapeutic exercises.
Heather sees all ages and all diagnoses for treatment. Medicare insurance is accepted with a doctor’s prescription/ referral for physical therapy. No other insurances are accepted, but Heather can offer you a receipt of treatment for reimbursement to your company if you would like.
If you are lacking support in another needed area, she will help to guide you to a practitioner that can address specific needs outside her scope. She believes in the team approach to a client’s wellness and often works in conjunction with other local practitioners to offer people a comprehensive analysis of their health and wellness.
Your Body Health is the focus at Stokes PT and Wellness. Your treatment will include assessment and treatment of the following:
Treatment will include hands on healing techniques, neuromuscular re-education, and therapeutic exercises. You will gain knowledge on proper movement patterns. You will be issued a home exercise program. Your nutrition is important in your healing. We may discuss healing foods, supplements, and water intake. We may also discuss your sleep habits. You need good sleep to heal efficiently. You also need to manage stress in order to not overwhelm the body!
Heather will assess and treat you holistically. She will be interested in your history and where may there be a restriction in your body – head to toe, front to back! Healing has to do with getting to the root cause of your symptoms. Together, we will figure it out!
I look forward to working with each and every one of you to maximize your health and teach your body to move freely.
Heather has been a physical therapist since 1999 in a variety of settings, including owning Stokes PT and Wellness since 2006 (formerly known as Waunakee Physical Therapy.) She graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and from the University of Miami with a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy and brings an eclectic approach to treatment. Her post-graduate continuing education has focused on advanced manual therapy techniques and functional rehabilitation, including a neuro-biomechanical approach, with an added interest in nutrition and wellness. She is a certified strength and conditioning coach.
Heather has been my Physical Therapist of choice for many years. She's helped me with countless issues from low back, hips, knees, elbows, and ankles. Not only does she spend hands-on-time working on my injuries, she has given my the tools to continue to perform at a high level. Thanks Heather!
There are many physical therapists in my area, but Heather's approach is second to none. I feel like a very important client when I work with Heather as she takes each case very personal. She really likes to know your background and more than just the point of contact of where the "issue" is. It is obvious her education goes beyond basic Physical Therapy and I enjoy the visceral manipulation therapy. She does a great job at explaining what and why she is doing during the appointment. I have referred people to Heather with knee and hip issues due to overuse and poor surgical procedures and I enjoy my progress with her for regulating my menstrual cycles.
I came to Heather with a problem with my back. With patience and empathy she manually worked my muscles, joints, and connective tissue to make me comfortable and gave me appropriate exercises. Heather recognizes that the root cause of pain may be hard to find. She was essential in helping me determine the best way to recover my health and strength. My husband and I just came back from hiking in Scotland! I managed to walk about 100 miles in a week, up and down hills over varied terrain. Thanks Heather for getting me back on my feet! I couldn't have done this last year.
REGISTERED & BOARD CERTIFIED ART THERAPIST, LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR, PEACE OF MIND THERAPY
Heather Hartwig Stokes has successfully completed more post-graduate training than anyone I know in any field. She is a life-long learner and I am fortunate to be one of many recipients of her commitment to professional growth. Heather is a calm, insightful, intuitive Physical Therapist. Her manual therapy techniques are the reason I have been able to (continue to) lead a physical life. I am fortunate (as are the other members of my family) to work with Heather --whether it be for a "tune up" or to address an acute injury. Heather is generous to a fault and shares her knowledge and technique readily and at a level that I can understand and follow through on after I leave her office.
